Through bio medical sciences and all the way through Veterinary college I knew that I wanted to be a rock singer. I even auditioned to be the lead singer of a heavy metal band.

When I finally met my musical partner Chris Testolini  our artistic bonding was instant. Writing together became as natural as breathing. When we write it’s like we’re finishing each others sentences. There’s the occasional banging of heads but that’s a good thing for the creative process.

My EP is called “What are you thirsting for?” a lot of it Chris and I did on our own we managed to persuade a few heavy hitters to help. Drummer Randy Cooke from L.A who has worked with Kelly Clarkson made a potent contribution elevating the power ratio in every song.

My roommate thought I was nuts agreeing to meet four greasy haired heavily tattooed metal dudes at an abandoned warehouse – I just shrugged my shoulders. Looking back it was probably kind of dumb but I got the gig. And once you got past the scary exterior they were all pussy cats. Unfortunately the metal queen / vet school thing just didn’t work out.

Even so, right next to my stack of text books my keyboard and guitar were always handy, I mean you never know when a song will demand to be written. So here I am today Dr Laura / Rock Chick a strange hybrid to be sure.

The other day in the studio we took a break from recording and the conversation turned to the topic of my “image”.  I get it, but I find that stuff hard to take seriously – but hey ya gotta do what ya gotta do – micro mini, spandex and high heels – damn these things are hard to walk in. One of the things I’ve considered is a free neuter coupon with every ticket to my show – good for dogs or possibly boyfriends who are dogs (I’ve had  some experience).

Guitarist, Iain McNally who has worked with Amanda Marshall was amazing he could give us exactly what we asked and then throw in three alternative versions just in case. Zebro another fabulous talent who is touring with Sean Jones co wrote Until with Chris and I. And of course Stu Young who won a Juno for his work on Prince’s Musicology gave it that final spark of life. After we heard Stu’s final mix Chris and I just looked at each other and felt as proud as new parents.

I’m excited because the initial response to my first  EP has been fantastic. It’s generated over 500 new fans on Jango. And my songs are selling well on itunes.  I just signed to be a featured artist on the next Radio RNR: New Faces, New Music CD.

And I just bought a church. Yup a church it’s a 125 yr old building with an amazing energy. I’m converting it into a  studio /  rehersal / living space.

That’s my story so far in a nutshell. So with no pretense of humility I encourage Music and Program Directors across North America to give me some spins I’ll even throw in a free neuter….er… or not.
